MP3 Players!

This weekend while working the Information Services Desk upstairs, I had several requests for books on CD. Now, we have tons of great titles of books on CD, but we also have another really great way to listen to books electronically..... Through MP3 Players!!!

It's really cool, you pick a title from our catalog and we download that title on to an MP3 player you can check out for 2 weeks. You can fast forward, go backwards, and save your place. Just come upstairs to the Information Services Desk and we can show you how to search for titles or even download a book for you on the spot. The MP3 audio books are great for Teens who are required to read several titles a month and need a little extra help getting through a novel. Also, when an MP3 audio book is listened to while following the text of a book, the combination of print and audio can reinforce phonetic literacy skills which can raise your reading level!

Its a great resource that the library has to offer so come upstairs and ask about them so we can get you set up!

WOW!

Hello!

I'm Emily, the new Teen Services Librarian! Stop by some afternoon and introduce yourself. I'm usually in the Teen Area just hanging out.

I wanted to let you know that there is tons to do in the library right now, especially if you are a Teen. We have new iMacs to use with lots of cool features like Garageband, Photobooth, iTunes and Photoshop. And you might have heard the wonderful news... We are getting our very own DDR, Guitar Hero and Wii soon so get ready to dance and game in the Library!

We have so much going on that you couldn't possibly be bored. With our DIY programs, Anime movie screenings, book discussion groups and even a Film Festival it's going to be really busy.

If you want to be the first to know of cool new programs and equipment, make sure you sign up for the Teen Advisory Board. We meet once a month to discuss library programs and activities. If you join the TAB you can also help decide what DVDs and CDs are bought by the library. Ask me for an application, or just send me an email at eplatz@farmingtonlibct.org and let me know you are interested.

Don't forget to pick up an awesome book when you stop by to use our iMacs. We have the newest titles by the coolest authors like Sarah Dessen, Meg Cabot, Nick Hornby and Neil Gaiman. Did I mention the we also have a huge collection of Anime and Manga?????

And remember that even if you don't want to participate in any of the programs or activities, you are still welcome to come and hang out in the Teen Area and catch up with your friends after school.

So stop by the library and say hello! I'll keep you posted on all the cool things going on in the Teen Area or you can check out our Myspace and FaceBook pages for a schedule of events!
