Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is director Tim Burton's most recent creation staring none other than Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. In the film, based on a musical of the same name, Depp plays a vengeful murderous barber with Carter playing a pie shop owner who works below his barbershop. After 5 years of being banished by a corrupt judge envious of Todd's wife, Todd comes back to have revenge on him in addition to most of English society.
Depp does remarkably well as the role of one of the more challenging baritone parts in musical theater. Helena Bohnam Carter plays a convincing role as the pie maker using Depp's victems corpses as meat for the meat pies.
Over all the movie was done masterfully with a good script and fantastic character developement. The only drawback would be the fact that this film needs a warning for the squeemish. At some points during the movie one starts to question if the immense gore is really able to be properly vindicated or whether it is simply overkill.
