Great Books To Read!

October & November Book Clubs!

Wednesday, October 22nd
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

I'm really excited to host a book club in October that will be in conjunction with the The Big Read and the New Britain Museum of American Art. They have received a grant to offer programs, lectures and events based around Jack London's book Call of the Wild. We will be hosting a book club for young adults, adults and anyone who would like to discuss this classic tale of adventure!
"Life is good for Buck in Santa Clara Valley, where he spends his days eating and sleeping in the golden sunshine. But one day a treacherous act of betrayal leads to his kidnap, and he is forced into a life of action and danger. Dragger away to be a sledge dog in the harsh and freesing-cold Yukon, Buck must fight for his survival. Can he rise above his enemies and become the master of his realm once again?"

Tuesday, November 18th
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We are so excited about the release of the Twilight Movie that we are hosting a Twilight Book Discussion! This book discussion is open to anyone, (moms, sisters, dads, teachers & even librarians!) who want to talk about Bella, Jacob and especially Edward! Registration for this event is required.

"Headstrong, sun-loving, 17-year-old Bella declines her mom's invitation to move to Florida, and instead reluctantly opts to move to her dad's cabin in the dreary, rainy town of Forks, WA. She becomes intrigued with Edward Cullen, a distant, stylish, and disarmingly handsome senior, who is also a vampire. When he reveals that his specific clan hunts wildlife instead of humans, Bella deduces that she is safe from his blood-sucking instincts and therefore free to fall hopelessly in love with him. The feeling is mutual, and the resulting volatile romance smolders as they attempt to hide Edward's identity from her family and the rest of the school. Meyer adds an eerie new twist to the mismatched, star-crossed lovers theme: predator falls for prey, human falls for vampire. This tension strips away any pretense readers may have about the everyday teen romance novel, and kissing, touching, and talking take on an entirely new meaning when one small mistake could be life-threatening. Bella and Edward's struggle to make their relationship work becomes a struggle for survival, especially when vampires from an outside clan infiltrate the Cullen territory and head straight for her. As a result, the novel's danger-factor skyrockets as the excitement of secret love and hushed affection morphs into a terrifying race to stay alive." - From www.amazon.com

Victorian Calling Cards

This was so much fun I promised everyone that we would do it again very soon. I researched Victorian Calling Cards and found out some interesting facts about how they were used to cultivate relationships, the symbolism of the objects represented on the cards and also the secret meanings behind a folded corner! It was really interesting and sparked some great debate about how we make friends now. Check out some of these great cards that we made:
